Local Artist Dead at 64

Boston, MA

Gloria Kent, wife of the founder of K-Mart and locally notable artist, has died of pneumonia, according to her sons. She was 64.

Kent died Tuesday after a long battle with pneumonia, resulting in hospitalization for the last month of her life.

Kent sold three paintings to private collectors, all of whom say they plan to donate the paintings back to the Worcester Art Museum’s collection of her works. The WAM will be running a special memorial exhibition in her honor, titled Just Another Kent with a Cape. The title references how Kent signed her paintings after her marriage.

Kent is survived by two sons—Michael Timothy Kent and Samuel James Kent—and five grandchildren.
